When Did Jane Cut Her Hair Again

Well, information technology's been in a while since this crazy lady rambled endlessly near her favorite show and favorite ship and all her favorite characters. And so gather around children, she's at it once again.

Or, you know, run every bit fast as you can if y'all want to avert another long winded post, I totally understand…

Anyway, three things I want to talk near in this ane post, and if you stick around, there'southward cookies in the end.

So permit me started with the least emotionally exhausting topic… Kurt's and Jane'south hair in season 4–

Prissy haircut, by the style

If you've been following this web log for a minute or two then you already know that I love Sully'south/Kurt'due south longer pilus that seems to be the look they're going with for Kurt in the opening part of the season. And of form, Jaimie also announced even before the flavour started Jane'south/Remi's new longer hair– non exactly pre-memory wipe long but certainly the longest we've seen Jane have her hair.

The topic of Jane's hair has been discussed before many fourth dimension, whether in season 2 episode 5, and Jane cutting her post CIA pilus back to her "Jane" pilus, symbolically choosing a side and confirming what side of the war she was on, denouncing the family she grew upward in and choosing her new FBI family– at a fourth dimension when her FBI family hadn't technically welcomed her dorsum and her other family was urging her to render. Information technology was one of Jane'southward strongest moments and a turning bespeak for her.

And so in season three, Jane returns from her eighteen months away with her hair longer and she also comes back with the mentality of having parts of her waking up while she was away. But soon enough, she'southward back every bit FBI-Jane and her trademark hair cut returns. That haircut while far less dramatic than the season 2 one, did have some symbolic value in announcing that Jane was committed to being dorsum, that she'due south accepted those parts of her that had woken up and absorbed them into her and were now role of FBI-Jane. The pilus wasn't exactly Remi because Remi had not returned, had not resurfaced, and Jane could confidently and without push dorsum "cut her pilus", or in other words, blot those parts of her that had decided to join the party.

Which brings u.s. to flavour 4– and all this is obviously speculative considering we still know well-nigh nothing about s4 considering the universe hate the Blindspot fandom and nosotros don't get SDCC goodness – but from the looks of it, the hair is confidently on its way to grow into Remi length hair.

And that's completely logical and narratively sound because as far as nosotros know, Remi is 100% back and Jane is gone, at least for the beginning of the episode. It would brand sense for Remi to uphold her embrace equally Jane for as long every bit she tin for a number of reasons we tin can go into afterward, but I call back but like Jane used cutting her hair as a statement to choose a side, Remi can do the aforementioned. She cannot throw away everything and embrace her identity as Remi but ane mode to insubordinate against Jane and the world and life Jane has chosen would be to grow her pilus. Just like by cutting her pilus in flavor two, Jane had chosen a side, Remi non cutting it can be a sign of her choosing a side– both in the disharmonize and a side of her identity in the disharmonize of Jane vs Remi or if y'all wish the proficient vs evil (although this is highly controversial as such a clear cutting merely let'south go with it for now).

Ok, and now that we've got Jane out o the style, let'south talk about her stupid husband and his pilus. Trying to ignore the obvious fact that the longer hair is sexy af, I'm going to focus on the narrative significance of it. You have no idea how hard that is considering my encephalon just wants to talk about how hot he looks. Simply no, seriously. Focus.

Kurt's almost always had his hair cleanly cropped and trimmed and professional person. In that location'due south no nonsense there. Zero fancy. A good military academy boy that he is– except the shaving the beard thing but at that place's a whole fanfic out there by @inmyblindspot to fulfill that narrative so nosotros won't get into it. But yes, Kurt'due south hair has almost ever represented one of the most important aspects of his character– control.

Tasha and Reade made fun of his control freak tendencies all the manner dorsum in flavor i and information technology is nonetheless very much truthful now as it was and so and his option of pilus cut represents that. It never gets out of control, post-obit the strict orders and guidelines that he draws for himself in about every attribute of his life. The only time we saw Kurt's hair slightly longer was in 201. And if y'all think most it then, there was an aspect of his life that was not under his command, he was slipping and losing control for a few things and it was paralleled in his hair– from his father's death to Mayfair'due south disappearance to Jane's betrayal– he was all of a sudden dealing with a lot of things he could not control.

But then once all the pieces barbarous into place, the old Kurt buzz cutting returned almost immediately.

Which brings u.s. to season iv. Yes, the very few spoilers we do have confirm that Kurt will spend some time in a coma following the surgery we concluded season three on him having to undergo, which means logically his pilus would grow while he naps. But across that, I believe that it will besides have a lot of narrative significance. At the beginning of the flavor, Kurt volition be completely under the mercy of a lot of things and won't be able to command everything effectually him, which we know Kurt Weller cannot stand because, aye, grumpchkinis a control real, bless his centre. His health and his existence benched for a while, his wife's health and the mysterious cure-less ZIP poisoning, Remi'south return, Tasha's "joining the dark side", all of these are things Kurt has to accept are happening in his world just he can do nothing about them. never has Kurt Weller been so non in control and it will drive him crazy and yes, I believe letting his hair become will be symbolic of him needing to let get of so many things and accept that he cannot always control everything.

I don't know if on the show they volition focus or shed light on either Jane's or Kurt's hair, the narrative significance or what they mean to their characters, but this is my 0.02 on the topic and I'd dearest to hear what y'all call up.

And now, moving on to the next topic of word rambling.

 My other half is you

Ah aye… that cute line from Jane in 321 that killed around 93% of the Jeller population and still makes us weep… Beautiful wasn't it? Remember how Kurt beginning walked into the lab and saw his wife there and wrapped his artillery around her (yes he did no one tell me otherwise) and sweetly kissed her neck and so those two ignored the fact they were in the lab at work and there were other agents and techs in at that place and pretended they were alone at home so Jane bared her soul for her hubby and and so held his hand against her heart and pressed her mitt above his– their rings looking so glittery and beautiful– and told him how he is her other half.

I'll expect as yous sigh heavily and then weep for a minute or 2.

All done? Good, let'southward carry on then.

Function of Jane's "speech" in that scene was announcing that she wasn't Remi– which we will get to in a bit– and also that Remi'due south other half was Roman and that she could non have survived without her brother.

Which is all very very true. No i can deny the tragic lives Remi and Roman had, how cleaved and shattered and messed up they both were equally a event of the orphanage in SA and of Shepherd's creative choices in parenting. I tin can go on forever almost only how terribly heartbreaking Roman and Remi'southward stories are– more than so Roman at the moment than Remi until we really get to know her because I still maintain that nosotros have not truly met Remi nevertheless not for who she actually is.

But here's where I disagree with Jane. She did go one affair straight. Remi could non take survived without Roman, not through the orphanages and non under Shepherd and not at whatever other indicate of her life. And although what we've seen and so far makes information technology look that Remi was the more in command and less fucked up one, I don't think that is truthful. Remi needed Roman to survive as much as Roman needed Remi– if not more. Nosotros've merely seen glimpses of Remi and almost all of them have been through the lenses of other people who had their own opinions of her and while in most of them she appears to be a complete asshole towards Roman, I am confident that what those 2 had between them was something that no one else could understand or see. Similar Jane said, they walked through fire together. The bond they shared was forged in that burn and every bit tragic and messed up as it was, no one could always intermission it or genuinely understand it or capeesh it. It may have been unhealthy af but it was all they had.

Remi could not have survived as long as she did without Roman just as Roman could not have without Remi.

And then yes, Remi and Roman needed each other to survive, I agree with Jane on that. What I disagree near it that they were ii halves of a whole. Hear me out. In a mode, yes, they were. The burn that bonded them made them an entity that was codependent, one that the parts of which could not survive on its own. But I would not telephone call them two halves of a whole. They shared a trauma and a tragedy and a suffering across anything and they were the crutches they both needed to brand their way through them and through life. But my point is that they were both so broken in nevertheless means that they could not consummate each others as halves that made a whole.

I am in no way undermining what Remi and Roman had. Not at all. In fact, as far as connections and bonds and caring and true 18-carat pure love, what those two is have– had– is unparalleled on the evidence. aye, it was tragic and broken and messed up and fractured and some would say very unhealthy but it was the strongest and the purest and the most honest. It had its foundation in babyhood, in the honesty and the purity that can simply be afforded by children– and that is partly why information technology is so heartbreaking and tragic.

Only again, they did not and could not have made a whole. they were not 2 halves that completed each other. They were two parts that could not be without one another simply they were too far gone, mode likewise similar in their fractures and their broken parts and they fucked up-ness that they would never have been able to be the other one-half that made a complete whole for the other.

Which brings me to Jane and Kurt. Jane telling Kurt that he is her other half, that is where the truth lies. just the thing that Jane got wrong at that place was in her denouncing Remi and taking her out of the occasion. Kurt is Jane's other half, but he is the other half toall Jane and all her parts, even the ones she tries to ignore. Like I said virtually Roman was not Remi's other half. It was and always will be Kurt. Kurt is the other one-half to the person who is Jane and Alice and Remi and every part of her that is broken and crawly.

That is not to say that Kurt himself is not broken. Oh boy is he broken, in so many countless ways. He is cleaved and messed upwardly and full of all these hole and fractures, but unlike Roman, his broken pieces do not parallel Jane(Remi/Alice), they consummate her and all her broken parts. Where Roman'southward shattered edges looked just similar Remi's, Kurt's don't, instead they fit them, like puzzle pieces, and as well, hers fit his… or something like that. And in that sense, they go ii halves of a whole, because instead of merely needing each other to survive, they can also help other heal and overcome their tragedies, which is something Roman and Remi could non provide for each other. Roman and Remi together would have forever been stuck in their tragedy. Kurt and Jane(Remi/Alice) can assist each other heal and overcome their tragedies.

But to go there, really get at that place, one thing needs to happen. Remi needs to merits her part in Jane'due south life and identity. Which brings me to the concluding part, the cheerily titled–

All of me loves all of you

I'k so sorry I'chiliad such a dork…

Anyway, we've reached the terminal section of this seemingly endless ramble and if you're still here then I really honestly appreciate y'all beyond words and cookies are coming in simply a bit. but first allow's talk near how much Jane Doe does not honey Kurt Weller.

Yup, that was not a typo.

Concord on, hold on, permit me explain.

If there is e'er a telephone call to artillery to protect the claim that Jane loves Kurt, I volition be the starting time in line to volunteer, you know that, correct?

Jane Doe loves Kurt Weller. At that place is no question about that. Jane Doe loves him so fiercely and without a single doubt. Jane loves him so madly and then passionately and then whole-heartedly.

Flavour 3 focused so heavily on Kurt's love for Jane, his commitment to her and his devotion to her and his willing to sacrifice anything and everything for her. And yes, there was ofttimes the question of but does Jane love him as much every bit he loves her? Is she as committed? Why won't the writers have Jane do or say something to reaffirm this?

Season iii did at times make it look like Kurt is more all in when it comes to their wedlock and their relationship than Jane.

Simply once again, I repeat, I accept no doubtfulness in my mind or in my centre that Jane loves Kurt every bit much as Kurt loves Jane.

Jane loves Kurt with everything that she is.

And that'southward it right there, isn't it? There'southward a lot to who Jane is that not even Jane knows.

Yous encounter, the Jane Doe who woke top in Times Foursquare iii years agone, who was manipulated by her ex-finace and used by her adoptive mother and punished for her choices past her brotherabsolutely and undeniably loves Kurt Weller. She has called him and will always choose him. There is no one else in her centre than Kurt and no place in there for anyone else.

But the thing is, this Jane who has fabricated all these decisions did not exist earlier Times Square. In that location is an entire lifetime and and entire person who existed before Times Foursquare that are still a function of her that are hidden, inaccessible, subdued but however very much a part of who she is. And mathematically speaking, that function of her is most of her. What's three years or so compared to thirty?

So technically, while post Times Square Jane loves Kurt, she cannot possibly speak for the rest of her that existed pre-times Foursquare. And I know that this sort of doesn't make sense in some ways, but give me a minute, I remember information technology will make sense eventually.  I hope. When Jane came dorsum from Nepal, she told Kurt that during her time away, she had institute purpose and that parts of her had started to wake upward. Now, for a while we all feared, Jane and Kurt included that this could be something that could push them away. Simply soon, Jane realized that having this purpose was not an obstacle to existence with Kurt and that Kurt was non an obstacle to her fulfilling these purposes. And she also realized that these parts of her that had awoken love Kurt as much a she residue of her does– which somewhen led to all those cute moments like finding her happy ending and not wanting to lose him and him being her other half.

And so similarly, these sleeping lurking parts of her that are more than… ambitious if you wish too need to wake up and decide on their own. Even though her memory was wiped and she could not call back being Remi, that never meant that Remi was deleted from her. She had always been very much in that location and waiting. And equally much as I love all the times that Jane chose being Jane and rejected Remi and confirmed her Jane-ness, it was never truly 100% concrete because y'all cannot really reject something and then powerful without a true conflict– which is what we will get in flavor 4 with Remi returning in total force.

Jane cannot truly devote her whole middle to Kurt until all of is in love with him– until Remi is as in beloved with Kurt equally Jane is. And also until all of Kurt is in love with all of Jane– both the Remi and the Jane– both what we've been led to perceive equally the evil and the skillful.

They won't be getting their peace and their happy ending until all of Jane loves all of Kurt and until all of Kurt loves all of Jane.

And that is all for at present. Give thanks y'all for sticking around. And as promised–

– cookies.
